VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Portland State women's tennis team won its first Big Sky Conference match of the season and its first since March 29, 2009 when the Vikings defeated Northern Colorado, 4-3. The Vikings improved to 4-7 this season and 1-3 in Big Sky play.
 
PSU opened the day with a clean sweep of doubles at Nos. 1-3, giving the Viks an early 1-0 advantage over the Bears.

No.1 Yuki Sugiyama made short work of her opponent and gave the Vikings a quick 2-0 lead with her 6-1, 6-0 lead. Northern Colorado's Elizabeth Tapia, Stephanie Catlin and Jennifer Buchanan won their matches at No. 3, 5 and 6 to put UNC ahead 3-2.

At No. 2, senior Anya Dalkin lost her first set 7-5, and was down 4-2 in the second, before rallying back to a 6-4 win in the set. Dalkin then dominated the final set, 6-1, to tie the match score 3-3. Marti Pellicano then clicnched the win for PSU with her 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win.

The Viks are now 4-7 overall and 1-3 in Big Sky play. They return to action March 5 for a match at Northern Arizona.
