BOISE –
Washington held Portland State to its worst hitting performance in over two years as the ninth-ranked Huskies swept the Vikings, 3-0, on Friday evening at the Northwest Challenge hosted by Boise State.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-21, 25-14.

The Vikings hit for a negative percentage, -.011, the first time they had done so since August 30, 2008, at Oregon State. With the loss, Portland State fell to 2-2 on the season.

Portland State started out on the right foot and held with the Huskies for much of set one. Washington held several three-point leads, the last at 17-14, before the Vikings knotted it up with three points of their own. But, the Huskies scored the final eight points to take the set.

The Vikings held the lead early in the second frame, going up 11-10 on a service ace by Whitney Phillips. Portland State had its chances late with the score at 20-20, but again faltered in the waning moments as the UW scored five of the final six points.

Phillips led Portland State with six kills, marking just the second time in her one-plus seasons on the Park Blocks that she has failed to reach double digits. Lana Zielke added five more and hit .455, while Nicole Bateham registered 13 digs.

For Washington (3-0), All-American Becky Perry tallied 18 kills and hit .400. The Huskies hit .300 and finished with 11 team blocks, including eight block assists by Kelcey Dunaway.

The Vikings are back on the floor tomorrow for two more matches at the Northwest Challenge. First up they take on Gonzaga at 10 a.m. PT, and then close out the two-day tourney by facing Boise State at 6 p.m. PT.

NOTES: Alexa Rosendale had 11 digs for PSU ... five different Vikings tallied one service ace ... Megan Ellis blocked a career high five balls for PSU, while Zielke had four ... Phillips has recorded double-digits in kills in 31 of her 33 career matches ... All-American setter Jenna Hagglund dished out 35 assists for Washington.
