POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State had four players reach double-digits in kills and the host Bengals snapped a 10-match losing streak to Portland State with a 3-1 victory on Friday night in Big Sky Conference action.
Set scores were 20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.
The loss knocks Portland State (12-8, 7-2 Big Sky) out of a tie with Northern Colorado for first place in the conference. Idaho State (13-9) remains in fourth at 5-4.
PSU started out on the right foot, hitting .345 in the first set while limiting the Bengals to a .182 mark. But it was downhill from there as they hit a combined .192 in losing the last three frames.
Idaho State rebounded by hitting .482 in set two, .343 in set three and .447 in the final stanza.
Whitney Phillips (21 kills) and
Megan Ellis (15 kills) led the Vikings' offense, while
Garyn Schlatter tallied her seventh double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs.
Idaho State was led by the 17 kills and .483 hitting percentage of Britta Bartschi-Rhodehouse. Haylee Brock-Thompson (15 kills, 10 digs) and Jaclyn Hone (13 kills, 12 digs) contributed double-doubles, and Jennika Wright chipped in 11 kills.
The Vikings are back in action tomorrow night at Weber State. First serve is set for 6 p.m. PT.
