How to Enter the Transfer Portal (2022-23)

Outlined here is the process for which a student-athlete enters the transfer portal at PSU. Please share with student-athletes. New legislation from the NCAA requires that Student-Athletes entering the transfer portal complete a Transfer Portal education module prior to their name being entered into the portal. Any questions may be sent to the Transfer Portal contact at Portland State, Sean Kosecki (skosecki@pdx.edu).
  1. Step 1: The Student-Athlete is encouraged to have a discussion with the head coach about their intention to enter the transfer portal. For student-athletes on aid, the Head Coach should determine whether the student-athlete should be taken off of aid at the end of the term due to entering the portal.
  2. Step 2: Student-Athlete should notify compliance of their decision to enter the transfer portal.
  3. Step 3: Once Notified Compliance will send out an email to the student-athlete explaining the three forms that need to be completed prior to entering the portal.
    • Student-Athlete must complete the notification of transfer form assigned to them through jumpforward. The information they put on this form will be the information in the transfer portal that is visible for other institutions to see.
    • Student-Athlete must sign and return the Transfer Portal signature page to compliance. This form allows compliance to enter their name and information into the transfer portal.
    • The student-athlete MUST complete the Division 1 Transfer Module. Once completed a PDF copy or a printed copy must be given to compliance. This link to the transfer module will be sent to Student-Athletes: https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2015/2/13/want-to-transfer.aspx

The NCAA transfer database will facilitate the initiation of the transfer process through the following mechanisms:
  • An institution’s compliance staff enters the student-athlete’s general information into the notification of transfer tab within two business days.
  • Immediately following submission, automatic alerts are sent to the student-athlete and selected institutional staff (e.g., director of athletics, compliance, coaches, advisors, etc.)
  • The student-athlete’s notification of transfer information is posted with a date stamp record, after which permissible recruiting conversations may begin.
  • The student-athlete’s notification of transfer information becomes searchable by other institutions, to confirm that permissible recruiting contacts may occur.

Withdrawal:
  • A student-Athlete may withdraw their name from the Transfer Portal at any time; by notifying compliance in writing.
  • Removing their name from the transfer portal does not mean the Head Coach must award aid for future terms nor does it mean the Coach must permit the student-athlete to rejoin the team.
