FARMINGTON, Utah — For the second time this season, Portland State softball senior Sherreigh Nakoa-Chung has been named the Big Sky Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The honor marks the third of Nakoa-Chung's career. She led the Vikings to their first Big Sky series win of the season over the weekend, taking two of three games against Northern Colorado.
The Waianae, Hawai'i native went 2-0 in the circle, tossing two complete games with 10 strikeouts and a 1.75 ERA while holding opponents to a .184 average. Her first win came in Friday's opener, when she allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out three in a 10-2 run-rule victory. She followed that with a complete-game effort in the series finale, striking out seven over seven innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs.
Saturday's win moved Nakoa-Chung to 9-9 on the season. She leads the Big Sky in strikeouts (95) and complete games (13).
