Portland State Athletics has agreed to a contract extension with Men's Basketball Coach
Jase Coburn to keep him under contract through the 2030-31 season as announced by Director of Athletics
Matt Billings.
Â
Coburn, the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year, led Portland State to its first Big Sky regular season title in 18 seasons and best record in 17 seasons in 2025-26. Coburn's team was 20-11 overall, 13-5 in the Big Sky Conference. In addition, Coburn is a finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award, presented annually by CollegeInsider.com, to the Division I coach who wins with integrity on and off the court.
Â
Coburn just completed his fifth season leading the Portland State program. His previous contract ran through 2027-28, but PSU has extended that for three more seasons through 2030-31.
Â
"Jase has done a tremendous job as head coach of our men's basketball program," said Billings. "He has instilled an impressive culture of accountability, development, and team success and is a fantastic representative for Portland State University and the Athletic Department. We are so proud of what he and his program have accomplished and look forward to his continued success on the Park Blocks."Â
Â
"I really appreciate President Cudd and
Matt Billings for their continued support," said Coburn. "I'm thankful for the opportunity to continue the momentum and culture that we have built here and forever grateful for our past players and staff that have continued to set the standard year after year. We are excited to get back to work and build off what we accomplished this past season."
Â
In 2025-26, Coburn led the team to its best start in history in league play (7-0), a program record six consecutive road wins, and just the third regular season title in PSU's 30 seasons as a member of the Big Sky. Once again, he had the top defensive team in the Big Sky, and the Vikings featured the league's Most Valuable Player (
Terri Miller Jr.), Defensive Player of the Year (
Tre-Vaughn Minott) and another first team All-League selection (
Jaylin Henderson).
Â
Under his tutelage, Coburn's team has improved over the past four seasons from 6 to 8 to 11 to 13 wins in league play, and from 12 to 17 to 19 to 20 wins for the season.
Â
Coburn completed his 13
th season at Portland State after spending the first eight as an assistant coach and associate head coach. He has a career head coaching record of 82-75.
