Six Vikings in Double Figures as Vikings Blow Out Warner Pacific, 111-48, in Exhibition Win

In a triumphant 111-48 exhibition win over Warner Pacific Tuesday, the 2026-27 Portland State women's basketball team formally introduced themselves to the Park Blocks.

If the game had counted, it would have been the highest scoring game by the women's basketball team in 32 years, dating all the way back to Jan. 20, 1994 when they scored 112 against Alaska Fairbanks. Additionally, it would have been the team's first 100-point game since their 104-48 win over Multnomah on Nov. 5, 2019.

"Everyone contributed in a big way," said head coach Karlie Burris. "Whether it was rebounding, playing really good defense, pushing the ball up the floor, getting teammates the ball."

This is Burris' second season at the helm, and the first season with a roster she handpicked. The new faces showed up. Freshman Nihoa Dunn was second in points with 22 and freshman Emma Zuniga led the team in rebounds with 14. If the game had counted, this would have been a career high for junior Teagan Colvin, who led the team in points with 23.

"Our freshmen are stepping up," said Burris. "Our young players are going to get a lot of minutes."

The game started off with a bang. Junior and familiar face Kyleigh Brown scored off a jump shot five seconds after tipoff. In the first quarter, the Vikings scored on average every 38.2 seconds, and went into the second leading 31-3. If the game during the regular season last year, the first quarter would have simultaneously been the Vikings' highest-scoring quarter of the year and mark the fewest points the Vikings allowed in a quarter.

Warner Pacific found a little bit of their footing in the second quarter, but not enough to make a comeback. The halftime score was 60-22 Vikings. Once again, that would have represented the highest-scoring half of last season had it been a counting game.

The second half of the game was also high action, with the Vikings scoring another 30 and 21 points in the third and fourth quarter, respectively. At the conclusion of the game, the team had 67 rebounds, which is four off the single-game school record of 71, set 33 years ago against Pacific (Ore.) on Nov. 29, 1993.

"We weren't really running any sets tonight," said Burris. "We were just trying to run and transition in our early offense. We let [Warner Pacific's ShielTiel Watah] get going, so I think we need to hone in a little on the scouting report, get better at knowing their key players and being able to shut them down."

Every Viking but one scored. Additionally, if the game had counted, it would have been the first game with six different players in double figures since Nov. 5, 2019 against Multnomah.

Burris says Portland State should get excited for this new group that's brewing.

"We scored a lot of points tonight, and that's what we want to continue to do," said Burris. "Expect us to play hard, to compete. It's not going to be one person every single night. We're all about the next person up."

The Vikings tip off regular season play at home on Monday, Nov. 2 against Pepperdine, at 7 p.m. PT.
