BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team earned its first victory of the season in dominant fashion on Saturday, sweeping George Fox 7-0 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The Vikings (3-1) set the tone early with a strong doubles performance, sweeping the Bruins (0-1) across all three lines to claim the opening point. Luke Lu and Luca Prino picked up their first win together, defeating Ikuho Ebisu and Keita Shoji 6-2. On court two, Aarjun Pandit and Ignacio Ruiz cruised past Aiden Cruz and Zach Moore, 6-2, while Edoardo Cravanzola and Hampus Hagglund earned their first victory as a pair on court three with a 6-1Â win over Luis Hernandez and Joseph Vece.
Portland State carried that momentum into singles play with another impressive showing. Lu got the Vikings started with a quick win at No. 5, followed by a straight-set victory from Haaglund on court six. Cravanzola, Pandit, and Prino added wins to secure the sweep, while Ruiz closed out the afternoon at No. 3, pulling out a 6-0, 6-7, 1-0 (3) victory over Cruz.
The Vikings return to action next weekend with a busy two-day road stretch against UC Santa Cruz, Saint Mary's, and Santa Clara (Feb. 7-8).
