Portland State Men's Basketball Coach Jase Coburn has announced the signing of Charles Chukwu for the 2025-26 season. He is the eighth student-athlete added to the Viking program for next season.
 
Chukwu is a 6-9 forward originally from Katy, TX. He prepped at Paetow High School, spent one season at University of Tulsa, one at the Garden City (KS) Community College, then was a redshirt last season at Arkansas Little Rock. Chukwu will be a junior in the coming season.
 
"The first word that comes to mind about Charles is 'force.' He plays the game with a lot of force," said Coburn. "Charles is an above-the-rim type of player. He can rebound up there and out of his area. He is tough and physical and will thrive in our system. He should be one of the biggest and most athletic guys in the Big Sky.
 
"Charles is a really good person and should fit right in with our team. The players on the team are really excited to add him as is the coaching staff. I'm excited to see him continue to develop here at Portland State."
 
Chukwu played his freshman season at Tulsa, competing in 29 games. He averaged 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 8.4 minutes per game. Chukwu transferred to Garden City as a sophomore. While there, he started 28 games, averaging 8.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game. He spent the 2024-25 season at Arkansas Little Rock, but was a redshirt for the season.
 
Chukwu joins a Portland State roster with seven returning players, two of which were starters.
