PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team will hit the road this weekend, carrying momentum from a 2-0 start to Big Sky play. The Vikings will face Washington State in Pullman on Friday at 12 p.m. before returning to conference action with an 11 a.m. dual against Idaho in Moscow on Sunday.
Portland State improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the Big Sky with wins over Weber State (4-3) and Idaho State (5-2) at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center on Sunday and Monday. As the team's only two returners this season, senior Nika Beukers and sophomore Scarlett Perkins combined for an 8-0 performance across the two matches. Beukers, who leads the team with a 4-1 singles mark, was named Big Sky Player of the Week on Wednesday after going 4-0 at the No. 1 spot against the Wildcats and Bengals.
Beukers' standout weekend included a dominant doubles performance alongside freshman Nene Uemura. The pair cruised to back-to-back wins at line one, defeating Weber State 6-2 before shutting out Idaho State 6-0. At line two, Perkins and Hana Abdelhamid also delivered, winning both of their doubles matches to help the Vikings secure the doubles point in back-to-back wins. Their undefeated weekend lifted them to a team-best 4-2 record on the season.
