BEAVERTON, Ore. – Despite a pair of singles victories, the Portland State men's tennis team fell short against Northern Arizona in a Big Sky dual on Saturday at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The Vikings dropped to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Lumberjacks improved to 6-4 and 1-0 in the Big Sky.
NAU secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Andrin Zuellig and Simon Kuszynski led 5-4 on the top court against Jakub Volesku and Jakub Pracher when the match went unfinished.
Kuszynski and Luca Prino highlighted Portland State in singles play, each battling to three-set victories. Kuszynski earned his seventh win of the season and improved to 2-0 in Big Sky play with a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (8) victory over Takumi Katsuda on court six. Prino picked up the first conference win of his young career on court one, outlasting Sani Torres 6-6 (5), 1-6, 6-4.
The Lumberjacks won the remaining four singles matches to clinch the 5-2 victory.
The Vikings continue Big Sky play next weekend with a road trip to Idaho on Saturday, March 8, followed by Eastern Washington on Sunday, March 9.
