HILLSBORO, Ore. -The Portland State women's soccer team was resilient against Idaho on Sunday, clawing back from an early deficit to secure a 1-1 draw at Hillsboro Stadium.
With the result, Portland State secured its eighth point in Big Sky play, improving to 3-7-4 (2-2-2 BSC). Idaho moved to 5-4-7 (2-1-3 BSC).
The Vandals got on the board quickly when Sara Rodgers headed home the first corner kick of the afternoon, giving the Vandals a 1-0 advantage less than three minutes into the match. Portland State settled in defensively after the early setback, backed by a strong opening-half performance from goalkeeper
Natalie Cunningham, who recorded five saves before the break.
The Viking attack, which managed just two shots early on, gradually found its rhythm in the second half. The persistence paid off in the 62nd minute when
Ocean Rideout drew a foul in the box and calmly converted the ensuing penalty kick to level the score at 1-1. Meanwhile, a scrappy Viking back line limited Idaho to just a single shot attempt in the second half, helping PSU secure the well-deserved draw.
A total of 26 fouls were called between the two sides, with 18 coming after the break. Although Idaho doubled Portland State's overall shot total, 10-5, the Vikings held a 3-1 advantage in shots over the final 45 minutes.
The Vikings will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 23, for their final home match of the 2025 season, hosting Montana at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day at Hillsboro Stadium.
