BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2025 dual season with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Puget Sound on Saturday at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The Vikings moved to 1-1 overall, while the Loggers dropped to 0-1.
Portland State opened with a pair of quick victories in doubles play. Hubert Theriault and partner Luca Prino notched a 6-1 win at line two, topping Trent Beckman and Jackson Stumpf. Hayden Elliott and Edoardo Cravanzola followed suit at line three, defeating Conor Blakeney and Tyler Blixt 6-1. The two wins secured the opening point for the Vikings, as the No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished.
The Vikings carried their momentum into singles play, rattling off six straight-set victories. Simon Kuszynski, Andrin Zuellig, and Elliott made quick work of their opponents, each earning 6-0, 6-1 wins on the back three courts. Prino and Cravanzola each recorded the first victories of their collegiate careers, with Prino winning 6-2, 6-2 on court one and Cravanzola earning a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court three. Theriault finished off the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 win at line two.
The Vikings will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 26, for a non-conference match against Utah State at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (10:00 a.m.).
