HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Portland State women's soccer team made history Sunday, defeating Seattle U 1-0 at Hillsboro Stadium. - The win marked the Vikings' first shutout of the season and their first-ever victory over the Redhawks, closing out non-conference play on a high note.

The Vikings improved to 2-5-1 while the Redhawks dropped to 5-2-3 on the year.

Eden Millan anchored the Vikings' defense, securing the shutout and notching a career-high 10 saves against 18 shots from the Redhawks.

After a scoreless first half, both teams pressed hard in the second, combining for ten shots in the first 20 minutes. The breakthrough came in the 70th minute when freshman
Aliayha Saldana deflected a long-range effort from
Abi Hoffman following a corner kick. Saldana slotted the loose ball into the net for her first career game-winner, while Hoffman picked up her second assist of the weekend. PSU's back line held their own in the final 20 minutes as Seattle U failed to find the equalizer. Â

The Vikings finished with eight shots, six of which were on target. Saldana led the attack with four attempts, while
Ocean Rideout added two. Although the Vikings trailed in shot count, they held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Sunday's victory improved Portland State's record against Seattle U to 1-9-4, snapping a winless streak that spanned 13 matches.

The Vikings will now shift their focus to Big Sky play, traveling to face Eastern Washington on Friday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m., followed by a matchup against Idaho on Sunday, Sept. 29.
