HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Portland State women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat in their home opener on Thursday, falling to Big 12 opponent Kansas State at Hillsboro Stadium.

The Wildcats claimed their first win of the season, improving to 1-1-0 while the Vikings slipped to 0-3-0.

Despite the final score, the Vikings out-shot Kansas State, doubling their shot count, but couldn't convert their chances into goals. Many of those opportunities arose in the first half, as PSU fired off 10 shots while holding the advantage in possession. However, the Wildcats capitalized on their set-piece opportunities, scoring from a free kick in the 43rd minute. Just 35 seconds into the second half, they struck again, extending their lead to 2-0 in the 46th minute.

The Vikings responded with a flurry of attempts on goal but couldn't break through Wildcat goalkeeper Murphy Sheaff as Kansas State secured the shutout.

Elle Frazier led the Vikings' attack with three shots each, while
Natalie Cunningham played the full 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves.

Portland State will have a break in action next week before heading on the road to face Nebraska Omaha on Friday, September 6th.
