EUGENE, Ore. – Despite a scoreless first half, the Portland State women's soccer team couldn't hold off the University of Oregon, as the Ducks secured a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Papé Field.
The Ducks used a pair of second-half goals to claim their second win of the season, improving to 2-0-0, while the Vikings dropped to 0-2-0 overall.
Portland State managed nine shots in the contest, with senior Abi Hoffman leading the attack. Hoffman recorded a team-high four shots, including the only two on target for PSU, both of which came within the first 16 minutes.
After a defensive first half, Oregon finally broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, then doubled their lead in the 70th minute. Portland State struggled to shift momentum, managing just one shot in the final 20 minutes as the Ducks secured the 2-0 win.
Eden Millan made her first start of the season in goal for Portland State, facing 20 shots and making a career-best seven saves.Â
The Vikings will now turn their focus to their home opener this Thursday, Aug. 22, when they host Kansas State. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Hillsboro Stadium.
