The Portland State Basketball roster for 2024-25 continues to grow as Coach
Jase Coburn has announced the signing of Shane Nowell to a grant-in-aid agreement.
Nowell, a 6-6 guard who spent the last two seasons at UNLV, is the second student-athlete to sign with the Vikings. In the past two seasons he played in 36 games for the Runnin' Rebels with 10 starts. Nowell averaged 3.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game over the two seasons. Nowell spent the 2021-22 season at the University of Arizona where he appeared in 19 games.
"Shane is a really talented basketball player. His ability to dribble, pass, shoot, defend multiple positions and rebound gives us a dynamic presence," said Viking Coach
Jase Coburn. "Getting to know him over the recruiting process, we felt like he was the right person to add to our team and has the qualities we look for in a player and a person."
Originally from Seattle, Nowell attended Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish. He was ranked as the 69th-best player in his class and 16th at his position by ESPN. His older brother, Jaylen, currently plays for the Detroit Pistons.
Nowell is the second student-athlete to sign with the Vikings for 2024-25. Portland State returns five letterwinners and one redshirt from this past season when the Vikings were 17-15 overall.
