Sofía Llanos, Esmeralda Morales Named to CSC Academic All-District Teams

For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the Portland State women's basketball program placed two players on the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District teams. Sofía Llanos and Esmeralda Morales both earned the award, announced Tuesday.

Morales earned the honor for the second time in her career, while Llanos received it for the first time.

The honor follows several for Morales this past season. She was also the program's first All-Big Sky first-team selection since the 2018-19 season after leading the Big Sky Conference in scoring with 16.5 points per game. She earned the honor academically with a 3.77 cumulative GPA in public health studies: community health.

Llanos earned the honor as a 3.81 student in communication studies. Athletically, she appeared in 28 of the Vikings' 31 games, including the first three starts of her career. Llanos scored a career-high 10 points in one of those starts, as she led the Vikings in scoring in their road game against Montana on Jan. 25.

The Academic All-District honors recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To qualify academically, a student-athlete must be a sophomore and have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Athletically, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of their institution's contests or have started at least 66 percent of the contests.
