Vikings Fall to Weber State, 5-2

OGDEN, Utah – Despite a dominant doubles performance, the Portland State men's tennis team couldn't maintain momentum on Saturday, falling to Weber State 5-2 at the Ogden Athletic Club.

The Vikings dropped to 4-9 (1-5 BSC) while the Wildcats improved to 5-10 (1-1 BSC).

Portland State got off to a strong start in doubles action, clinching the point with wins at lines three and one. Luka Jovanovic and Andrea Brignacca opened with a 6-2 win over Matteo Savio and Tuan Minh at No. 3. Cade Edwards and Simon Kuszynski followed suit with their first victory at the No. 1 spot, beating Elyes Marouani and Tristan Sarap 6-4.

The Wildcats shifted momentum in singles play, claiming five matches in straight sets. Simon Kuszynski was the lone Viking to pull out a win for Portland State, fighting his way to a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8) come-from-behind victory over William Zulch at line four.

The Vikings will be back in action on Monday, April 1, as they kick off a three-match road trip in California against Point Loma.
