Portland State women's soccer player and living organ donor
Cameron Dixon has been selected to represent the American Liver Foundation (ALF) at the 2025 Boston Marathon. As part of ALF's 128th Liver Life Challenge team, Dixon joins a diverse group of runners—novices and seasoned athletes—united by personal connections to liver disease.
Â
The Liver Life Challenge is ALF's official endurance program, where athletes nationwide raise funds to support the 100 million Americans affected by liver disease. Team members are tasked with raising at least $10,000 each, with all funds supporting ALF's mission of education, advocacy, research, and resources.
Â
In 2023, Dixon donated 70% of her liver to her mother, Jamie, who battles polycystic liver and kidney disease, ultimately saving her life. The surgery and recovery kept Dixon out of her senior soccer season in 2023. However, after a remarkable recovery, she returned to the field this past fall, playing 966 minutes on the Vikings' backline, starting 11 matches and helping Portland State reach the Big Sky Tournament semifinals.
While earning her degree in Applied Health and Fitness at Portland State and working as a strength and conditioning intern, Dixon has developed a deep passion for fitness, which she will leverage as she trains for the 26.2-mile race set for April 21, 2025. However, her ultimate focus is bringing awareness to liver disease.
"I'm deeply committed to the fight against liver disease," Dixon said. "Having experienced firsthand the transformative power of a liver transplant, after donating 70% of mine to save my mother's life, I'm passionate about raising awareness and funds to support those in need."
