Jack Mullaney, who last week was named Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach, has reversed course and will not be joining the Portland State program. Mullaney originally agreed to take over the Viking program and was announced on June 30. He notified Director of Athletics John Johnson on Sunday that he had a change of heart on the coaching position.
 
"Upon deeper reflection, I've decided to stay at the University of Portland," said Mullaney. "I am grateful to the Portland State administration for the opportunity, and wish the program success moving forward."
 
"We appreciate Jack's interest and respect his decision," said Johnson. "Portland State will move forward in seeking new leadership for Cross Country and Track and Field for the 2023-24 season and beyond."
