Four members of the Portland State women's tennis team have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.

Sophomore Nika Beukers, fifth-year senior Emily Rees and juniors Makoto Ohara and Capu Sanoner all earned the award for the first time in their careers.  

The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To qualify, a student-athlete must have completed at least one full year at their current institution, be a starter or important reserve, and have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). 

All four of Portland State's honorees appeared in at least 18 of the Vikings' 24 matches in 2023 and combined for a cumulative GPA of 3.89. 

Beukers was the youngest Viking to receive the honor, boasting a 3.98 as a sophomore business management and leadership major. The Netherlands native went 11-9 in singles action and 12-7 in doubles in her second year with the Vikings. 

A First Team All-Big Sky Doubles selection in 2023, Sanoner qualified academically with a 3.74 GPA in Applied Health and Fitness. The junior went 14-0 at No. 1 doubles alongside Masha Ponomareva, setting a program record and leading the Big Sky in wins. Sanoner recorded four singles wins, three of those at the No. 2 position. 
 
Ohara received the first Academic All-District honor of her career carrying a 3.83 GPA in Advertising Management. The junior ranked second on the team in singles wins (11) while recording 11 wins in doubles action. Ohara posted a 5-3 regular-season Big Sky singles record while being named the Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Year twice at the beginning of the season.   

Rees rounds out the group as a senior science major qualifying with a 3.99 GPA. A three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Sky selection, Rees is no stranger to academic awards. The Portland, Ore native notched four singles wins and 10 doubles victories in her final season with the Vikings.
