MISSOULA, Mont. – Montana was too much for the Portland State men's tennis team to handle on Saturday in Missoula, as the Vikings fell 7-0 to the Grizzlies at the Peak Racquet Club. The Vikings fell to 6-12 overall and 1-4 in conference action, while Montana improved to 10-9 and 2-4 in Big Sky play.
The Grizzlies started strong, claiming the opening point with a pair of doubles wins at the two and three spots.
Four of the six singles matches came down to a third set, but the Vikings were unable to come away with a victory.
Jonas Hembo Mathiasen and
Simon Kuszynski both fell short in their comeback efforts, bouncing back from first-set losses to push a third. Kuszynski dropped his match 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (9) at the five spot, while Mathiasen fell 6-0, 6-7 (8), 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Gregory Gruenig and
Luka Jovanovic also dropped three-set matches.
The Vikings will take next week off before playing their final two matches of the regular season at Idaho (Friday, April 21) and Eastern Washington (Saturday, April 22).
