BEAVERTON, Ore. - The Portland State men's tennis team ended its home slate on a high note Wednesday afternoon, handing North Dakota just its third loss of the season in a 4-3 victory at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. The Vikings improved to 6-8 overall, while the Fighting Hawks dropped to 14-3 on the year.Â
A pair of 7-6 defeats at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles led the Vikings to a 1-0 lead to open the match.

Andrea Brignacca battled their way to their sixth victory of the season at the No. 3 spot, topping Drew Can Fossen and Riley Odell, 7-6. Gruenig and
Jan Semerak won in a similar fashion on court one, edging Gerhard Sullwald and Nikita Snezhko.Â
The teams traded points in singles action as the Fighting Hawks opened with a win on the top court to tie the dual at one. Semerak responded with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court two before Gruenig claimed another match for the Vikings at No. 6 (6-2, 6-4). The deciding point came down to Jovanovic at No. 4, following back-to-back victories by UND. The freshman came through for the Vikings, knocking off Snezhko 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the match.Â
Portland State will return to action on Saturday, March 18 when they head to Eugene to take on Oregon (5 p.m.).Â
