PORTLAND, Ore. – Looking for its fourth straight win, the Portland State men's tennis team will return to action this weekend as they open Big Sky action against Sacramento State on Friday and Idaho State on Saturday at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.

The Vikings head into conference action with a 4-3 record, after winning their last three matches. Following a 7-0 win over William Jessup on Feb. 3, the Vikings defeated George Fox and Pacific in back-to-back 6-1 defeats last weekend.

Holding the longest win streak since 2021, the Vikings are 16-2 in singles over their last three duals. Freshman
Gregory Gruenig continues to impress at No. 5 singles, leading the Vikings with a 5-2 record.

Jonas Hembo Mathiasen and
Jan Semerak each have four wins on the year, as they each head into conference play looking to extend their three-match win streaks.

Portland State is 11-7 in doubles play, claiming the doubles point in all four of their wins. Beginning to find their groove, the Vikings have won eight of their last nine doubles matches.
Simon Kuszynski and Mathiasen have earned three-straight victories at the two spot, securing a team-best 4-1 record. Also with four wins are
Andrea Brignacca and Jovanovic, who have won four of their last five. The duo's most recent victories came at the No.3 position.Â

The Bengals were picked fifth in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches Poll, three spots ahead of the Vikings, after a 12-12 finish in 2022. Carrying a 12-15 singles record and a 12-14 doubles mark, the Bengals will travel to Beaverton on Saturday following a Friday matchup with George Fox. They're led by first-year head coach Oliver Good.
