FARMINGTON, Utah – Portland State's men's and women's tennis teams were both picked eighth in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Polls, the conference office announced Monday. The polls were voted on by the league's head coaches, who could not vote for their team.

Despite finishing with a 5-3 conference record and reaching the Big Sky semifinals last season, the Viking women received 23 points in the poll, placing them above only Eastern Washington, who received 10 points. Northern Arizona topped the poll with 58 points and two first-place votes. Sacramento State was second with 57 points and four first-place votes while defending Big Sky Tournament Champion Weber State was tabbed third with 56 points and three first-place votes.

The men's side saw similar results, with the Vikings coming in eighth with 19 points. Northern Arizona topped the poll with six first-place votes, receiving 62 points, followed by Sacramento State with 59 points and three first-place votes. Idaho State rounded out the top three with 45 points.

Fifth-year head coach Kyle Russell and the women's team will open their 2024 campaign at Oregon on Friday, Jan 19. With a roster featuring five upperclassmen, including three-time all-conference honoree Capu Sanoner, the Vikings will look to build on last year's impressive 12-win season.

The men, led by fifth-year head coach Vetu Mam, will kick off their season at Washington on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Vikings' 2024 roster consists of six returners, three transfers and one freshman.
