Vikings Blank Grizzlies, Improve to 2-0 in Conference Action

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Portland State women's soccer team capped the opening weekend of Big Sky play with its second straight shutout, beating Montana 1-0 at Hillsboro Stadium on Sunday.

It was the Vikings' first win over the Grizzlies since 2016 and first 2-0 start to conference action since 2013. PSU improved to 3-5-3, while the Grizzlies fell to 4-3-5 (1-1 BSC).

The Vikings took the lead in the 27th minute after a perfectly executed cross from Chloe Huling found Raniyah Burton in the box, who knocked it in. Viking goalkeeper Sidney O'billovich recorded four saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the Vikings on top. Montana came out firing in the second half, tallying four shots in the opening ten minutes but failed to find the equalizer. O'billovich completed her impressive day in goal with a crucial save in the 89th minute, denying the Grizzlies' final effort before time expired.

O'billovich finished the match with a season-high seven saves, notching her second-straight shutout win. The Vikings tallied 12 shots, allowing 18 from the Grizzlies. Elle Frazier, Emma Johnston, Sienna Higinbotham, and Burton all had multi-shot games. Corner kicks were scarce, as the teams combined for only three during 90 minutes of action.

The Vikings will get six days of rest before returning to action next Sunday, Oct. 2, for a Big Sky matchup against Sacramento State at Hillsboro Stadium (1:05 p.m.).
