Vikings and Fighting Hawks Play to 0-0 Tie

HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Portland State women's soccer team recorded its first shutout of the season on Sunday, but came away empty-handed in a 0-0 tie with North Dakota at Hillsboro Stadium.

The Vikings moved to 1-4-3 on the year while the Fighting Hawks slipped to 2-4-2.

Portland State dominated possession throughout the contest, recording a season-high 22 shots. On the other end of the pitch, a solid Viking defense limited North Dakota to only two shots in the first 45 minutes and six overall.

The first half ended with zeros on the board, despite 12 shots from PSU in the opening 45 minutes. The second half was physical, as five yellow cards and 12 fouls were given between the teams. The Fighting Hawks saw their best opportunity to score in the 62nd minute, but a crucial kick save from Viking goalkeeper Enya Hernandez kept the score tied. The Vikings earned two corner kicks and tallied four shots in the final ten minutes but couldn't break through.

For the eighth consecutive match, Hernandez and Sidney O'billovich split time in goal for PSU, combining for the shutout while recording three saves. 13 Vikings recorded at least one shot in the contest. Sienna Higinbotham led with four shots putting one on target, while Chloe Huling put a team-high two shots on goal.

Portland State will get six days of rest before returning to action at CSUN on Sunday, Sept. 18 (2 p.m.).
