NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Portland State women's soccer team dropped its final non-conference match of the season on Sunday, falling to CSUN 2-0 at the Matador Soccer Field.
The Vikings will enter Big Sky action on Friday with a 1-5-3 record. The Matadors improved to 2-8 on the year.
PSU tallied nine shots in the contest, putting six on goal, but for the second match in a row, the Vikings failed to find the net.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Matadors broke through in the 44th minute to take a 1-0 lead heading into the break. The Viking's back line held firm for most of the second half to keep the score at 1-0, holding the Matadors to five shots in the period. The PSU attack came to life in the 82nd minute, rattling off three shots in the span of a minute, but was unable to capitalize. The Matadors scored their second goal of the day in the 84th minute to seal the deal.Â
Enya Hernandez and
Sidney O'billovich split time in goal for the Vikings, each allowing a goal and recording one save.
Abi Hoffman led the Vikings with three shots, while
Sienna Higinbotham added two.
Portland State will return to action on Friday as they open conference play at Northern Colorado (6:05 p.m. PT).
