Vikings' Frazier Nets First Career Goal in Loss to UCR

HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Portland State women's soccer team fell to UC Riverside 4-1 in a non-conference matchup at Hillsboro Stadium Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings dropped to 1-2 on the season while the Highlanders improved to 2-0.

Portland State found itself in an early hole as UC Riverside got on the board in the 12th minute. Viking goalkeeper Enya Hernandez buckled down for the remainder of the half, fending off three UCR shots to keep the score at 1-0.

Both teams found the net in the 53rd minute. Following a Highlander goal, PSU freshman Elle Frazier found herself one-on-one with UCR's goalkeeper, netting her first career goal to pull the Vikings within one. Just over a minute later, UCR extended its lead to 3-1 in the 55th minute following an own goal from PSU. The match remained scoreless until the 80th minute when the Highlanders clinched the win with a penalty kick goal.

The Vikings tallied eight shots, putting four on target. Frazier and Sienna Higinbotham led with two shots each.

PSU's goalies tallied five total saves in the match, four from Hernandez and one from Sidney O'billovich, who replaced Hernandez at the halfway mark.

The Vikings will close out its four-match home stand this Sunday, August 28th, against South Dakota at Hillsboro Stadium (12:05 p.m.).
