LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Portland State softball's Olivia Grey and Logan Riggenbach were recognized as All-Pacific Region selections by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Thursday.
Grey, a first-team All-Big Sky pitcher this season, was named to the Pacific Region's second team after a phenomenal year in the circle for the Vikings. The redshirt sophomore finished the year with the program's second highest single-season win percentage, going 18-8 (.692) in 34 appearances. Holding opponents to a .203 average, Grey posted a 2.13 ERA, leading the Big Sky in strikeouts with 214, which ranked 31st in the nation. Early in the season, the Woodland, Wash. native led the Vikings to a pair of victories over Pac-12 opponents, including the program's first win over a ranked opponent since 2011 against then-No. 23/24 Oregon State. Grey held the Beavers to six hits and one earned run, propelling the Vikings to a 6-1 win in Corvallis.
Riggenbach, a first-team All-Conference outfielder, was selected third team All-Pacific Region for the first time in her career after finishing the regular season with the second highest batting average in the conference (.394). Riggenbach notched a team-high 54 hits, ten doubles, and 41 RBIs to go along with eight home runs and a .414 on-base percentage. The Salinas, Calif. native was the fifth player in program history to finish a season with a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 (minimum 50 chances), recording 82 putouts in 82 chances.
Thursday marks the first time since 2011 that Portland State has had two or more players receive DI All-Region honors. Anna Bertrand was the last Viking to be recognized by the NFCA in 2013. Riggenbach's third team nod is a first for the program.
