Portland State Basketball Coach
Jase Coburn has announced the signing of MJ Jones to a National Letter of Intent for the 2022-23 season.
Â
Jones is a 6-2 guard from Pelham High School in Alabama. He was named the Shelby County Player of the Year and to the Alabama Class 6A All-State team. Jones averaged 24 points and three assists per game as a senior and scored over 2,000 points in his high school career. He was selected All-County and All-Area four times each.
Â
"MJ is a multi-talented point guard. He can score by getting to the rim, pulling up on the drive and by knocking down three-pointers," Coburn said. "He is a great decision-maker with the ball and makes people around him better. The future is very bright for him at Portland State."
Â
Jones is just the latest signing for the Viking program and eighth signing of this off-season. He joins a program that was 14-17 last year, 10-10 in the Big Sky. The Vikings won 10 of their last 14 games in the 2021-22 season, reaching the Big Sky Tournament semifinals.
