SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After dropping the series opener 2-0 on Friday afternoon, the Portland State softball team bounced back, erasing a six-run deficit to claim a 13-9 win in game two over Sacramento State.
The Vikings moved to 19-12 overall and 3-2 in Big Sky action, while Sacramento State sits 19-15 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
Sacramento State began the day with a shutout performance against the Vikings in game one. They took a 2-0 lead over
Olivia Grey and Portland State's defense in the bottom half of the second, capitalizing on a pair of errors.
The Vikings saw their best chance at tying the game in the final two innings, stranding two runners in the sixth and seventh as the Hornets secured the 2-0 win.Â
Despite allowing just a single hit and zero earned runs in the contest, Grey took the loss for Portland State.
Olivia Dean tallied a team-best two hits on the day as the Viking's offense totaled six.
Sacramento State carried its momentum into the final game of the day, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Vikings battled back in the top half of the third when
Logan Riggenbach scored Dean with a squeeze bunt.

Natalia Martinez finished off the rally, singling home Riggenbach to tie the game at three.
The Hornets regained the lead in the third at 5-3 before exploding in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits to take a 9-3 advantage.
The Vikings weren't ready to back down as they rallied back in the top of the sixth. Martinez began the comeback effort with her first collegiate home run to pull the Vikings within four. Lopez knocked a two-RBI single to make it a two-run game before a Riggenbach single cut the Hornet's lead to one at 9-8, heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Garcia and Martinez got things started in the final frame, knocking back-to-back hits with nobody out. The Hornets retired the next two batters to bring
Mariah Rodriguez to the plate. Down to her final strike, Rodriguez got the job done, putting the ball in play to force a Hornet error to score
Ellie Babbitt and knot the game at nine.
Taking advantage of the momentum, the Vikings' offense exploded for four more runs over the next three plays to take a 13-9 lead.
Grey finished the game on the rubber for Portland State, retiring the side to clinch the win and knot the series at one game apiece.
The Viking's offense rattled off 15 hits, the most since their season opener on Feb. 11. Lopez had a career-high four hits while Garcia and Martinez added three each. Riggenbach went 2-for-4 at the plate, notching a team-high four RBIs. Â
Allicitie Frost earned the win in the circle after pitching 1.2 innings. After taking things over in the seventh, Grey recorded her third save of the season.
The Vikings and Hornets will play the rubber match on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Sacramento.
