HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Portland State softball team capped off its three-game series against Robert Morris University with a 4-0 win on Saturday at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex.
The Colonials were 9-1 entering their series against the Vikings; they are now 10-3. After the 2-1 weekend, the Vikings improved to 11-7 overall.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second after an RBI double from Shea Garcia scored Emily Johansen.
Paetynn Lopez led off the bottom of the third with a solo bomb over the left-field fence, her fourth of the season to put PSU up 2-0. Ellie Babbitt was the second Viking to score in the frame, coming home on a wild pitch.
The Vikings tacked on one more run in the sixth off a two-out RBI single from Logan Riggenbach.
Olivia Grey locked in her eighth win of the year as she shut down the RMU offense in the final frame to secure the win. The victory marked Grey's second shutout and seventh complete-game performance.
Lopez led the Viking's offense with two hits. The sophomore finished the weekend going 6-for-10 at the plate with three RBIs.
PSU will return to action next weekend at the Oregon/Oregon State Invitational. They'll begin play in Eugene on Friday, March 11, before playing games in Corvallis on Saturday and Sunday.
