Vikings Fall to NDSU, 9-0

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Portland State softball team dropped its final game of the UO/OSU Invitational 9-0 to North Dakota State at Kelly field on Sunday.

The Vikings dropped to 13-10 while the Bison improved to 13-11.

Seeking revenge from Friday's extra-inning loss to the Vikings, NDSU struck early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-0 lead.

Amidst two PSU pitching changes, the Bison added to their lead, scoring runs in the second and fourth innings. Holding a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, the Bison ended things early with a two-run home run to secure the run-rule victory.

North Dakota State's starting pitcher, Mac Schulz, held the Vikings to just two hits on the day. Maddie Thompson and Emily Johansen each recorded a hit in the contest. Allicitie Frost took the loss in the circle for PSU, falling to 3-4 on the season.

The Vikings will return to action on Wednesday, March 16, when they host Corban in a doubleheader slated for a 3 p.m. start at Gordon Faber Field 4.
