BEAVERTON, Ore. -Â Â After dropping the match's opening point, the Portland State men's tennis team battled back to beat Pacific 4-3 at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center on Friday.
Pacific opened up the year 0-1 while the Vikings improved to 1-3.
Oliver Richards and Nils Plutat shined for PSU in doubles play, improving to 2-1 at the No. 2 spot with a 6-2 win over Quentin Gonzalez and Aidan Rooney. Pacific locked in the opening point with a pair of wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
The Boxers had a solid start to singles action, extending their lead to 2-0 with a win at the No. 5 spot. Sam De Vries gave the Vikings life with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Nicholas Koulisis before Nils Plutat tied things up with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at flight one.
The Vikings' next victory came from Oliver Richards (6-2, 6-2) on court three, putting PSU up 3-2 with two matches remaining.
Portland State's Andrew Vu was unable to pull off a victory at the sixth position, leaving the match up to senior Tommy Hsu at the No. 2 spot.
After being pushed to a third set, Hsu got the job done for the Vikings, defeating Mason Tran 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 to clinch the first win of the season for Portland State.

The Vikings will look to build off their victory with two more duals this weekend. They'll return to Tualatin Hills tomorrow to take on Lewis & Clark (2 p.m.) before heading across town to Portland on Sunday (10 a.m.)
