Vikings Fall 3-1 to Idaho in First Big Sky Loss

MOSCOW, Idaho - In a showdown of the Big Sky's top two teams, the first-place Portland State women's soccer team suffered its first Big Sky loss on Friday evening, falling to second-place Idaho 3-1 at the Kibbie Dome.

The loss snapped the Vikings' five-match unbeaten streak as they fell to second in the Big Sky standings. They now sit 5-6-4 overall and 4-1-1 in conference action. The Vandals jumped to first place in the conference standings, improving to 10-2-2 overall and 5-1-0 in Big Sky play.

The teams combined for only five shots in the first half. After taking the lead in the 22nd minute, the Vandals extended their advantage with a second-half goal in the 54th minute. Eight minutes later, the Vikings found themselves down three scores following another goal from Idaho in the 62nd minute.

Portland State's Olivia Stone gave the Vikings some life at the 74-minute mark, netting a 25-yard strike to cut into the Vandals' lead. Stone's goal wasn't enough as Idaho's defense held the Vikings shotless for the remainder of the match to secure the 3-1 victory.

The Vikings held Idaho to a season-low five shots in the match, out-shooting them 7-5. Elle Frazier recorded three of the Vikings' seven attempts.

Sidney O'billovich got the start in goal for Portland State before Enya Hernandez took things over at the break.

The Vikings will look to bounce back against Eastern Washington in Cheney on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is slated for 1:05 p.m. at the EWU Soccer Field.
