Offense Shines in Viking's 3-1 Win Over CSUN

PORTLAND – The Portland State women's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to earn a 3-1 victory over CSUN at Hillsboro Stadium.

The Viking's victory marks just the second win over CSUN in program history. PSU improved to 2-3-0 on the season while the Matadors fell to 1-6-0.

PSU saw its first lead of the day after capitalizing on a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. Sienna Higinbotham sent a no-doubter past the Matador goalkeeper en route to a 1-0 Viking advantage.

Just two minutes later, CSUN's Brooke Mobeck netted the equalizer as time expired in the first half.

In the 47th minute, the Vikings seized the momentum as they regained the lead. A fifteen-yard strike from Ani Jensen off an assist from Raniyah Burton put PSU back in front 2-1.

Viking goalkeeper Sidney O'billovich kept PSU in control by deflecting five Matador shots in the final 45 minutes.

With the clock winding down, Portland State found its third goal of the day in the 85th minute. Freshman Hannah Grady served a brilliant ball across the field, meeting Megan Cornett in stride. The fifth-year senior finished things off by sending a dime into the upper left corner of the net for her first career goal.

The Vikings clinched the win at 3-1, despite the shot count favoring CSUN 17-13. Chloe Huling led PSU with a team-best five shots. Liz Hansen, Jadyn Harris, Hailey Green, Sofi Papastamos, and Higinbotham played all 90 minutes for the Vikings.

Portland State's Enya Hernandez and Sidney O'billovich split time in goal, combining for nine saves on the afternoon.

The Vikings will get one day of rest before heading on the road to battle San Francisco this Sunday (1 PM PT).
