Vikings Fall To Gonzaga

PORTLAND – The Portland State women's soccer team fell to Gonzaga 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Hillsboro Stadium.

The loss moves the Vikings to 1-2-0 overall while the Bulldogs improved to 3-1 on the season.

Following a series of possession changes and a pair of early shot attempts from Viking freshman Abi Hoffman, Gonzaga was able to find their groove in the 23rd minute, netting the first goal of the day. Portland State held off the Bulldogs until the final minute of the period. Finding the back of the net twice in the 44th minute, Gonzaga headed into the break with a 3-0 advantage.

GU continued to pour on the pressure in the second half, scoring a trio of goals in the opening 13 minutes. A Hannah Hale strike in the 83rd minute sealed the deal for the Bulldogs as they locked in the 7-0 victory.

Portland State ended the day with six shots, three of those coming off the foot of Hoffman. PSU starting goalkeeper Enya Hernandez clocked 66 minutes in goal as she racked up a season-high 11 saves. Sidney O'billovich recorded one save after taking things over in the 66th minute.

The Vikings will return to action next Sunday against Boise State at Hillsboro Stadium (1 PM).
