Four members of the 2020-21 Portland State women's golf team have been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. Senior Valerie Hernandez, junior McKenna Maser and freshmen Mariana Garcia Rosette and Franca Polla all earned a spot on the team through academic excellence.
The WGCA All-American Scholars were announced today with a total of 1,432 women's collegiate golfers recognized for the prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
Hernandez recently earned her degree in Business: Marketing. Originally from Bogota, Colombia, this marks the fifth straight year she has been named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team. She is also a five-time All-Big Sky Conference and Academic All-Big Sky Conference selection. Hernandez earned the honors five times as she was given an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hernandez finished her career ranked second all-time in rounds played (127) and third all-time in scoring average (75.05) in PSU history.
Maser, a Business: Supply Chain Logistics major from Portland, just completed her second season at Portland State. She is also a two-time Academic All-Big Sky Conference selection.
Garcia Rosette and Polla were first-year players for the Vikings. Garcia Rosette is majoring in Business Administration: Management and Leadership, while Polla is a Psychology major. Polla tied for second at the Big Sky Conference Championship in April.
As a team, Portland State women's golf had a cumulative 3.667 GPA for the 2020-21 academic year.
