Viking Men's Basketball Signs Michael Carter III To Aid Agreement

Portland State Men's Basketball Coach Jase Coburn has announced his fifth signing of the spring, as the Viking program adds Michael Carter III to the roster. Carter III has signed an aid agreement for the 2021-22 academic year.

Carter is a 6-5 junior guard who will transfer from Long Beach State. He began his career at the University of Washington. Carter started all 13 games he played in this past season at LBSU, leading the team in scoring at 14.6 points per game. Carter also averaged 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and shot .469 from the field. He played in 31 games, starting 19, in 2019-20. That season, Carter averaged 12.4 points and led the team with 82 assists and 33 steals.

"Michael plays with a competitive edge and chip on his shoulder. He brings a passion and spirit to compete that we need on this team," said Coburn. "I expect him to have a big impact on our program."

Originally from Seattle, Carter attended O'Dea High School where his team won the Washington 3A State Championship. He began his collegiate career at Washington in 2017-18 but saw limited action due to a hand injury.

Carter joins a Viking team that currently has 10 players returning for 2021-22, including three starters. Coburn has now signed five transfers over the past month.

Coburn has been with the Viking program for eight years, including five as an assistant coach and three as associate head coach.
