Vikings Edged Out By Sacramento State

HILLSBORO – The Portland State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Sacramento State at Hillsboro Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Alongside her defense, Sophomore goalkeeper Enya Hernandez put the Hornets to the test for the majority of the match, holding them to just five shots in the final 45 minutes of play. Hernandez recorded four saves for the Vikings, notching all four in the opening half.

PSU controlled the tempo to open the afternoon, seeing three solid shots in the opening 20 minutes. Senior Tea Poore gave Portland State its best look of the day, striking a near miss off the crossbar in the 17th minute as the match remained scoreless.

After neither team was able to jump ahead, the Vikings headed to the break with zeros on the board for the first time this season. Sacramento State's Tiffany Miras found herself in the right place at the right time as she capitalized on a deflection off the crossbar to net the only goal of the day.

The Viking defensive attack kept the Hornet opportunities few and far between for the remainder of the match but Sacramento State stood their ground to complete the shutout and earn the 1-0 victory.

The Vikings tallied nine shots in the contest, the most since their season opener. Megan Cornett and Raniyah Burton put shots on goal for PSU while Emilee Greve was the lone Viking to record a multi-shot game.
