MONMOUTH, Ore. — Jack Rubalcave led a group of three Vikings that opened the John Knight Twilight Friday at Western Oregon University's McArthur Field.
Â
Rubalcave and
Logan Fisher ran the men's 1,500 meters Friday, finishing second and fourth in the second section of the race in times of 4:10.45 and 4:14.68, respectively. Rubalcave's time put him right around the same time he ran at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Classic, where he set his current 1,500-meter personal best on March 20. Rubalcave finished the 1,500 meters in 4:10.03 at Lewis & Clark, nearly six seconds faster than his personal best from three years earlier.
Â
Jean Rwandika also threw the javelin for the Vikings Friday, placing second with a best throw of 182-06 (55.64m). Rwandika set his PSU best in the javelin just last week, when he threw 193-05 (58.96m) at the Hayward Premiere. Rwandika's overall best remains 199-09 (60.88m) back when he was in high school.
Â
Jordan Gloden and
Rashid Muse will now take the baton for the Vikings, as they compete on the second day of the John Knight Twilight Saturday. Gloden opens the day for Portland State, as he competes in the men's long jump at 11 a.m.
