Vikings Drop Two in Final Day of Oregon Invitational

EUGENE – The Portland State softball team fell to Boise State 6-1 and the University of Oregon 16-0 on day two of the Oregon Invitational in Eugene on Sunday.

True freshman Bailey Rose got the start in the circle for Portland State against the Broncos. Boise State took an early 5-0 lead before Allicitie Frost replaced Rose in the top of the third. Frost tossed 4.1 innings for the Vikings allowing just one run off of two hits.

PSU tallied six hits against the Broncos in game one but was only able to to push one run across. Boise State sealed the deal in the seventh with a 6-1 victory, the only Viking run coming from an Olivia Dean RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth.

The Vikings' day didn't get any easier as they faced the sixth-ranked Ducks in the final game of the tournament. The Oregon offense came out firing today following a close 4-2 victory over the Vikings on Saturday. Exploding in the first inning, the Ducks saw three Viking pitching changes en route to a nine-run inning.

The Ducks kept their foot on the pedal for the following four frames, scoring 16 total runs in order to earn the five-inning run-rule victory at 16-0.

Marissa Bruno, Maddie Thompson, and Hannah Sisul earned the Vikings three hits against the Ducks.

Rachel Menlove led the Vikings offensively over the weekend, going 6-12 (.500) with 3 RBI and 2 home runs.

Frost led the pitching staff in her two appearances in the circle, ending the two-day affair allowing just five hits in 10.1 innings of work, striking out six in the process.

PSU will return to action next Friday at the Husky Invitational where they will face No. 8 Washington and Seattle University during the three-day tournament in Seattle.
