MISSOULA – The Portland State women's soccer team challenged the undefeated Montana Grizzlies on Friday, falling 2-1 in game one of its third Big Sky series of the season.
The Vikings fall to 0-5-0 on the season while the Grizzlies improve to 4-0-0 (3-0-0 BSC).
Montana was the first to get on the board, finding the net in the 17
th minute for a 1-0 lead. Portland State's
Paige Donathan was determined to respond, notching the first goal of her collegiate career in the 28
th minute to tie things at one.

Enya Hernandez highlighted the Vikings on Friday spending all 90 minutes in goal while facing a heavy offensive attack. The sophomore was faced with 20 shot attempts, nine of which were on target. Unable to get the ball past Hernandez, Montana threatened the Viking defense with nine corner kicks but the Vikings buckled down, closing the door on all nine attempts.
After nearly 40 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Grizzlies used a penalty kick in the 65
th minute to cash in a second goal, taking a 2-1 lead.
The Vikings fired off a pair of shots in the final ten minutes of action but were unable to find the back of the net, falling 2-1 as time expired.
Ani Jensen recorded the first assist of her collegiate career after setting up the 28th-minute strike for Donathan. Despite getting a hand on nearly everything that came her way, Hernandez ended the night with six saves.
Portland State will get a second opportunity against the Grizzlies on Sunday as they look ahead to a rematch slated for 11 a.m. PT in Missoula.
