SPOKANE – The Portland State men's tennis team suffered its first loss in three weeks on Sunday, falling to Gonzaga 7-0 in Spokane.
The Vikings were riding a four-game winning streak coming into its non-conference dual with the Bulldogs after earning their first Big Sky Conference victory over Eastern Washington on Friday.
Gonzaga secured a pair of doubles wins to start the day. The Bulldog's Sasha Trkula and Leon Roider defeated Bryan Husin and Tommy Hsu 6-3 at No. 2 while Sam Roberts and Nils Plutat dropped a tough 7-5 decision on court three.
Plutat highlighted the Vikings in singles action, pushing Galvan Gomez to a tiebreaker at the No. 5 spot but ultimately fell 2-6, 6-4, 12-10. Putting up a fight at the No. 6 position was Husin who suffered a 7-5, 7-5 defeat to complete the Gonzaga sweep.
PSU will return to action next Saturday (March 6) against Washington.
