Viking Basketball Signs One More Transfer In James Scott Of Temple

The Portland State Basketball recruiting class has grown by one more as transfer James Scott has signed a grant-in-aid agreement for the 2020-21 season with the Viking program.

Head Coach Barret Peery made the announcement on Tuesday, adding a seventh player this spring and ninth overall to the recruiting class for the coming season.

Scott, a 6-5 guard, is a senior transfer from Temple University. He averaged 7.2 points per game for the Owls in 2019-20. Scott originally attended Kennesaw State in the Atlantic Sun Conference. He was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team, then averaged 17.3 points per game to rank third in the ASUN as a sophomore.

"I like James' offensive abilities. He really has a nose for the ball and a good ability to score in many different ways," said Viking Coach Barret Peery. "His experience will be very beneficial to us, having come from a very good league.

"I also think his athleticism will fit us at both ends of the floor with what we like to do," said Peery, referencing his team's full-court press game.

Scott is originally from Union, NJ where he attended St. Benedict's Prep and was a first-team All-State performer.

Portland State has signed a total of nine student-athletes for 2020-21. PSU returns five letterwinners and one redshirt from the 2019-20 season.

PSU was 18-14 overall, 12-8 and fourth place in the Big Sky Conference this past season.
