Big Sky Conference Releases Spring 2021 Football Schedule

The Big Sky Conference released its Spring 2021 Football Schedule today, featuring a six-game slate for the 12 teams competing. Portland State will have three conference games at home and three on the road in an abbreviated Big Sky schedule.

The Vikings will open the season with a home game against Eastern Washington on Feb. 27. That game, and all Viking home games, will take place at Hillsboro Stadium.

PSU will play at Northern Arizona on Mar. 6, then Idaho on Mar. 13.

There will be an open date for all teams on Mar. 20 in the event that a makeup game will be necessary due to complications from COVID-19.

The Vikings will resume action on Mar. 27, hosting UC Davis, then play Cal Poly at home on Apr. 3. The regular season wrap-up will be an Apr. 10 contest at Montana. Apr. 17 is also scheduled as a league makeup date if needed.

The Division I FCS playoffs, featuring a 16-team field, will begin on Apr. 24.

The Big Sky Conference canceled the fall 2020 football schedule due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, and eventually all fall sports were moved to a spring format.

Defending Big Sky Conference co-champion Sacramento State has opted out of the Spring 2021 football season and will resume play in the fall. Schedules were made with consideration for limiting travel for all teams.

Portland State returns 13 starters and 47 letterwinners from the 2019 team that finished 5-7 overall. The Vikings feature a strong offensive skill group, led by quarterback Davis Alexander who had 3,445 yards of total offense and 30 total touchdowns. The returning wide receiver group of Beau Kelly, Emmanuel Daigbe, Mataio Talalemotu and Davis Koetter combined for 140 receptions, 2,178 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2019.

On defense, the Vikings feature one of the top players in the nation in Anthony Adams. The junior defensive back led the nation in passes defended last year with 24. He had five interceptions, a school-record and Big Sky-leading 19 pass breakups and 56 tackles in 2019.

Practice will begin at a date to be determined in January. Game times and broadcast schedule to be announced.
