With the absence of fall sports in 2020, GoViks.com is going to look back at some great moments in the history of Viking fall sports (volleyball, soccer, football, cross country, golf) on specific dates. This is not an exhaustive list, and not every date is covered, however as the fall progresses, the rich history of Viking Athletics will be remembered.

Aurora, OR (Oct. 2, 2018) – Portland State came from behind in the final round, trailing by nine shots at one point and down six at the turn, to pull off the victory at the Rose City Collegiate golf tournament at Langdon Farms.

It marked the first time in nine seasons hosting the event that the Vikings had won their own tournament. And, it was sweet redemption after taking the tournament to the final hole in last year's event before losing by one stroke to Cal Poly.

The Vikings shot 295-296-303=894 to overtake Grand Canyon (296-294-307=897) on the final three holes. Boise State started the day in front and still led at the turn, but ended up tying for third with Northern Colorado (898). Difficult conditions increased scoring by almost two shots per player from the first day of competition and the Vikings took advantage.

PSU junior Valerie Hernandez paced the Vikings with a final-round three-under par 69. She placed second overall at 71-73-69=213. Hernandez established a new career-best at Portland State with her three-under par score.

The Vikings started the day three shots behind leader Boise State. They pulled within two shots early in the round, eventually fell behind by nine, then trailed Boise State by six at the turn. But the Broncos faltered on the back nine and Grand Canyon, in second place after day one, surged into the lead. Portland State was able to pull into a tie with two groups left on the course.

After some late bogeys by Grand Canyon, the Vikings held together and pulled out the win. Hernandez birdied 11 and 14, then parred in. PSU also got back-nine 37s from Jasmine Cabajar and Windy Huang.

Cabajar shot 74 in the final round. It was a nice bounce back from her second round and moved her 12 spots up the leaderboard. The junior finished at 73-82-74=229 and tied for 21^st.

Freshman Windy Huang was steady with 76-76-78=230. She tied for 25^th among 66 golfers.

Elise Filuk shot 75-71-87=233 over the three rounds. She tied for 31^st.

Iliana Telles competed as an individual for the Vikings. The sophomore was steady with 78-79-79=236 over 54 holes. She placed in a tie for 38^th.
Senior Shweta Mansingh tied for 41st with 80-76-82=238.
