SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sarah Medved closed out her standout Viking career Friday while finishing 42nd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA West Prelims at Hornet Stadium. Medved finished in 10:31.76, her second-best time in the steeplechase this season.
Â
Medved was making her second straight appearance at the NCAA West Prelims in the season, a year after she became the Vikings' first-ever qualifier in the event. Medved also repeated as Big Sky champion in the steeplechase this season, a year after winning the Vikings' first Big Sky title in the men's or women's steeplechase.
Â
Medved broke the school record in the steeplechase twice last season, and set the current school record with a time of 10:21.56 at the 2018 Mt. SAC Relays. Medved finished just off her record time at this year's Mt. SAC Relays, qualifying for the NCAA West Prelims with a time of 10:23.36 – the 36th-best time in the NCAA west region this season.
Â
Thursday's race for Medved closed the collegiate track & field season for the Vikings. The Vikings will send a couple of athletes to the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, which begins June 21 in Miramar, Fla.
